Log File Monitor Introduction

Log File Monitor is part of the Halcyon System Event Manager product that can monitor file contents and raise alerts based on the content. As the name suggests, its purpose is to monitor the content in log files but can in fact monitor the content of any file accessible via the IFS or URL path. The file must be in XML format if the URL path option is used.

You simply identify and name the files that you want to monitor, which can include generic entries. The Log File Monitor then periodically checks these files and reads any records that have not previously been read or in which specific values, such as date or time, have changed since the last monitoring check was completed. It then inspects the field values of these records and if these match the values of criteria defined in the rules, an alert is raised and actions are added.

Both fixed layout and comma separated value (CSV) file formats are supported.

Log File Monitor is supplied as a licensed plug-in module to Halcyon Level 3 Advanced Automation and Level 4 Operations Center Suites.

This documentation covers those elements that are specific to Log File Monitor. For assistance with other common elements within the Halcyon product suite with which this product interfaces, please refer to the relevant section in the product suite documentation.
