Purging Log Entries
After you set up auditing, WebDocs saves a log record every time a user performs an activity with a document. Depending on your auditing needs, you may only need to keep some log entries or only keep the most recent log entries.
Warning: Once you purge log entries, you cannot recover them except by restoring them from a back-up.
Best Practice: If you want to regularly purge log entries, schedule one or both of these commands to run as a job at night.
To purge log entries:
- From the main menu, choose95. Enter parameters for Log File purge - DOCLOGPRG.
- Choose which log entries to delete by typing anXin front of one or more of the following:
- Clear all records- Delete all log entries.
Note:If you choose this option, do not choose any others. - Date range- Delete the log entries within a specific date range. There are two ways you can set the date range:

- Type dates in the format YYYYMMDD.
For example: From: 20000101 To: 20041231 - Select a range of dates by typing the values*CURRENT, *30DAYS, *60DAYS, *90DAYS, and *120DAYS. This option is useful if you want to regularly purge older log entries.
For example: To delete all log entries once they are older than 90 days, submit this command to a job with the following parameters: From: *120DAYS To: *90DAYS
- Type dates in the format YYYYMMDD.
- Status equal to- Delete the log entries with the statuses you choose. After you pressEnter, a page displays that lets you choose existing statuses from a list. Type1next to all the statuses you want to delete, and then pressEnteragain.
For example: If you choose the statuses DOCINFO and VIEWNOTES, WebDocs will delete log entries with either of those statuses, but keep log entries with all other statuses.
Note: You can combine this option with the date-range option above. Only entries that match both the date range and the statuses will be deleted. - Status not equal to- Delete all log entries except the entries with the statuses you choose. After you pressEnter, a page displays that lets you choose existing statuses from a list. Type1next to all the statuses you want to keep, and then pressEnteragain.
For example: If you choose the statuses DOCINFO and VIEWNOTES, WebDocs will keep log entries with either of those statuses, but delete log entries with all other statuses.
Note: You can combine this option with the date-range option above. Only entries that both match the date range and do not match the statuses will be deleted.
- Clear all records- Delete all log entries.
- Press Enterto validate your selections and choose any statuses, if applicable.
- Press F3.
WebDocs selects log entries for deletion, depending on the criteria you chose in Step 2. -
From the main menu, choose 96. Run Log File purge based on parameters entered above - DOCLOGPRG3.

Press Enter.
WebDocs deletes the log entries that you selected in Step 4.
